The Use of Clear Bags for Garbage as a Waste Diversion Strategy: Background Research on Clear Garbage Bag Programs across North America

According to all but one of the 22 survey respondents who participated in this study, clear bag requirements lead to increased recycling tonnage. The majority of survey respondents further report the clear bag program had a positive impact on overall waste management costs. In Canada, Nova Scotia is considered a leader in applying the concept. The Province has been very proactive in collecting data to track the results of their programs.
